Technical Solutions
We provide targeted biological interventions for the most common and costly challenges faced by wastewater treatment plant operators.
Many facilities struggle with high effluent ammonia due to insufficient nitrifier populations. Because nitrifiers are slow-growing autotrophs, they are easily outcompeted by carbon-eating heterotrophs, especially in high BOD environments. UltraClear Nitrifying Concentrate supplements the aeration basin with active Nitrosomonas and Nitrobacter, supporting the biological capacity to oxidize ammonia.
A toxic slug, sudden pH swing, or excessive hydraulic washout can decimate a plant's nitrifying bacteria population. When an upset occurs, waiting for natural repopulation can take weeks. Adding our live liquid concentrate reseeds the basin with active biomass, introducing necessary nitrifiers rather than waiting for dormant powders to rehydrate and establish.
Nitrification is highly temperature-dependent. The growth rate of nitrifying bacteria drops significantly in cold temperatures. As winter approaches, many plants lose nitrification and struggle to regain it until spring. A proactive maintenance dose of Nitrifying Concentrate throughout the cold months helps support the population density required to offset the slower metabolic rate.
Starting up a new wastewater treatment plant or an SBR requires establishing a healthy biomass before full load can be treated. Relying solely on indigenous bacteria to naturally populate the system can be slow. Seeding the new plant with UltraClear Nitrifying Concentrate provides a foundation of live biology to support the treatment process.
